Update: As landroni suggested, I ran short and extended self-tests using gsmartcontrol. Could this just be an issue with a new installation onto a SATA drive? Was any city/town/place named "Washington" prior to 1790? Bonuses when saw the disk with GUI interface with Disk management utility the disk shows unknown partition types.I have googled this and gotten all sorts of ideas. Reply Link Vadim February 17, 2008, 7:00 pmthanks for info. You might be able to recover some of it using a utility called dd_rescue but it would probably be quicker to buy a new disk (almost certainly required anyway) and restore I am having the same problem. Same error with 8.10 as well.
