that error was really annoying !! I noticed that there are files in the subdirectories of the configuration directory that are apparently generated from the plug-ins that Eclipse finds when it starts. viewing Product Configuration via "Help --> Software Updates --> Manage Configuration" all installed plug-ins are marked defective. I really did not think about this topic before from your point of view.

The features directory zip contains features in jar format, which is not supported (see my previous comments, such as comment #5). Worked for me as well.
